Soooo easy to make, granola adds a delicious crunch to so many things! (And delicious with this Honey Crisp Applesauce!) They are also wonderfully adaptable to suit personal tastes. Here are several of our family’s favorites!
Favorite Granolas
Grandma Melanie’s Favorite Granola
Adapted from Moosewood Restaurant Cookbook
In a small saucepan, warm:
1/4 cup (50 g) vegetable oil
1/2 cup (170 g) honey or pure maple syrup
1 tsp table salt
1 T pure vanilla extract
Combine in a large bowl:
6 cups (594 g) rolled oats (not quick or instant)
2 cups of a mixture of your favorite coarsely chopped nuts (almonds, pecans, cashews, peanuts, hazelnuts, etc.)
1/2 cup (57 g) unsweetened coconut
1/4 cup (30 g) raw pumpkin seeds
1/4 cup (35 g) raw sunflower seeds
2 T brown sesame seeds
1 tsp cinnamon
Drizzle the warm honey/oil mixture into oat mixture and using your hands, make sure it is thoroughly combined.
Spread the granola on two un-oiled baking sheets. In a preheated 325°F oven, bake for 20 minutes, then add the Dried Fruit Mixture and stir. Return to the oven and bake another ten minutes.
Dried Fruit Mixture
1/4 cup (57 g) dried cranberries
or
1/4 cup (32 g) dried apricots
Remove from the oven and stir every ten minutes until cool to avoid clumping. Store in a closed container at room temperature.
Jessie’s Favorite Granola
Adapted from Seattle Granola Company’s Original Granola

1/2 cup (170 g) pure maple syrup
1/4 cup (54 g) extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp kosher salt
1 T pure vanilla extract
Combine in a large bowl:
6 cups (594 g) gluten free whole grain rolled oats (not quick or instant)
1-1/2 cups (213 g) coarsely chopped almonds
1/4 cup (30 g) raw pumpkin seeds
1/4 cup (35 g) raw sunflower seeds
1/2 cup (57 g) organic unsweetened coconut flakes
2 T flax seeds
1 tsp cinnamon
